Microsoft plans for its upcoming Windows File System replacement –WinFS – to include some very useful features relating to meta-data that can be indexed, searched and filtered. WinFS was previously slated for Windows Vista (aka “Longhorn”) but removed late last year as Vista launch dates continued to slip.
